LeBron James Makes Fashion History

LeBron James, the Cleveland Cavaliers' superstar, appears on the April cover of Vogue with supermodel Gisele Bundchen, joining actors Richard Gere and George Clooney as the only men to do so in the influential fashion magazine's 116-year history.

LeBron James and supermodel Gisele Bundchen

"It's pretty good," James said, "Me being a big guy and a big supporter of fashion, to be on the cover with Gisele, on the cover of the biggest fashion magazine ever - it's pretty good."

Vogue is featuring athletes and models in an annual issue devoted to size and shape. The 6-foot-9 James and 5-foot-11 Bundchen, girlfriend of Patriots star quarterback Brady, make a perfect pair.

The pairing of the All-Star forward and the runway icon was shot in January by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz in James' hometown of Akron, Ohio.

Tiger Woods Heart Pounding Win

Tiger Woods heart thrilling win on Sunday earned him his fifth Arnold Palmer Invitational and his fifth consecutive win plus another spot in the record books. This is his 64th career victory, tying him with Ben Hogan at No. 3 on the all-time list.

His one-shot victory on Sunday was so intense that Woods may have been a little dazed but definitely not confused after holing a 25-foot birdie putt that caused pandemonium around the 18th hole at Bay Hill.

Unlikely challenger,Bart Bryant, gave Woods his stiffest test in seven months. He was tied with Bryant coming to the 18th hole when he produced what Woods called his best swing of the week; a 5-iron from 164 yards into a stiff breeze over the water to a skinny green with bunkers behind it, followed by a 25-foot putt that would have left him a tough putt if he missed.

“I was so into the moment of the putt going in and winning the golf tournament,” Woods said. “I kept telling myself, ‘I’ve done this before. I did it against Phil. And this time, it’s a little bit deeper into the green, and the putt has a little bit more break, and it has a little more grain. I’ve done it before and I can do it again.”’

The last time Woods made a birdie on the 72nd hole for a one-shot victory was in 2001 against Phil Mickelson.

Perfect Season For Tiger Woods?

Next up on the Tiger Woods schedule is the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in Orlando, Florida on March 13-16. He returns to the PGA Tour action where he hopes to win his ninth tournament in 10 appearances and his seventh win in a row.

Tiger Woods believes he is playing the best golf of his career and beating the world's best players on the most difficult courses is the norm.

After winning his 63rd PGA Tour title at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, Woods told reporters he was relishing his best ever form.

“I have been asked whether I think I can go undefeated this year,” he added. “I pointed out that when I was 11, I went 36-0 so I’ve already had a perfect season.

“Is it realistic? No. But why would you go to a tournament if you don’t think you can win? That’s my expectation of myself. That’s the way I think and how I’ve always played golf.

“I’m very excited about the way my year has begun. Three wins in three starts was just what I had in mind.”

Woods won Buick Invitational in his first PGA Tour appearance of the year before his amazing come from behind victory at the European Tour’s Dubai Desert Classic.

Tiger Woods Winning Streak Continues

Tiger Woods continues his winning streak with another title at the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship in Marana, Arizona. Not even the red hot Stewart Cink, wind, or even a swarm of bees could derail the Woods train.

Woods struggled through the first three days of this event, surviving a first-round upset bid by J.B. Holmes before needing 20 holes to defeat Aaron Baddeley in Friday’s third round.

But after a pair of victories on Saturday Wood found his comfort zone and was dominant over his first nine holes Sunday, holing birdies at Nos. 2, 5, 7 and 8. In Saturday’s quarterfinals he defeated K.J. Choi before edging Henrik Stenson in an 18-hole semifinal later in the day.

In Sunday’s championship round of the $8 million tournament Woods coasted to a comfortable 8 and 7 victory over Cink. Cink was no match for the top-seeded Woods, who played effortlessly at times through the windy conditions at Dove Mountain. The only thing that slowed Woods was a swarm of bees that caused a 10-minute delay during the afternoon session’s ninth hole.

It was the third career title in this event for Woods, who holed 14 birdies over the 29-hole round. He won this tournament in 2003 and 2004.

The world No. 1, Woods won his fourth straight PGA tournament and fifth consecutive overall, a run which included his amazing comeback at the Dubai Desert Classic earlier this month.

“This is certainly the best stretch I think I’ve ever played,” said Woods, who captured his 15th title in 26 career World Golf Championship events.

Woods also recorded his 63rd career PGA title, passing Arnold Palmer for fourth on the PGA’s all-time list.

“I’m looking forward to seeing Arnie,” said Woods, who has won seven of his past eight official starts worldwide stretching back to last August.

“I got off to a quick start,” said Woods, who took home the $1.35 million first prize. “I put a bunch of heat on Cink and never let him into the match.”,

The 2007 champion, Henrik Stenson defeated Justin Leonard, 3 and 2, to take third-place.

The Magic Act Surprises The Detroit Pistons

With a 10 gaming winning streak the Detroit Pistons may have thought that Magic was improbable, but the surprise was on them.

But Tuesday night it was the Pistons that got routed. Detroit trailed the Orlando Magic by as many as 26 points leading to a 103-85 loss. The winning streak was over leaving behind only the trail of magic sparkles.

“I certainly didn’t foresee that happening,” Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. “A lot has to go right for us to beat the Pistons like that, especially on a night when Dwight Howard scores eight points and Hedo Turkoglu goes 4-for-13.”

“You hate having a break when you are on a winning streak, because it messes with your momentum,” said Chauncey Billups. “That’s not an excuse, because we feel like we should have come in here and played better than that. No one likes losing like this.”

Detroit extended its win streak to double digits with a lopsided victory over Indiana on Feb. 13. Keeping up that intensity may be tough for them though.

Boston Celtics Boost Denver Nuggets Confidence

Nuggets beat the Celtics 124 - 118

The Denver Nuggets win over the Boston Celtics seems to have infused a new sense of confidence into the team. This maybe what it takes for the team to start winning more consistently.

"Winning this game puts a lot of pressure on us, because if you can beat a team like this, then you can beat all the other teams,” Iverson said. “We have enough talent to scare some people, but we just have to bring it night in and night out.”

Carmelo Anthony scored 29 points, Iverson added 28 and the Denver Nuggets spoiled the return of Kevin Garnett, holding on for a 124-118 victory over the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night.

2008 NBA All-Star: LeBron James' MVP Moment

Lebron James wins his second MVP in three years.

"He's got two and he's only 23, so you can figure he'll end up with more than any of the active players. Kobe, Shaq and Allen Iverson all have won a pair, but they have a lot of years on LeBron" - Stan McNeal - SportingNews

It wouldn't be long until these pulsating final minutes of this fabulous All-Star Game ultimately belonged to the genius of its Most Valuable Player with 27 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.

In his job, James is forever required to take the hard road to victory and that is so much of the reason he had the ball in the final moments Sunday night, with an improbable victory over the West within reach. James looked at those two 7-footers and another just two inches shy, and understood that he was going to the rim, that he was going hard and daring someone to stop him. Once again, LeBron James doesn't do the path of least resistance.

"LeBron is a freight train when he goes to that basket," West coach Byron Scott sighed. "He's so big, and so strong – so quick and so powerful. It's hard to stop him when he gets the momentum going like that."

Yes, maybe LeBron James could've let one more long jumper go, but the All-Star Game was tied, and James was probing with the ball across midcourt with the deep-seeded knowledge that no one in the game is harder to stop as a pure physical phenomenon. It takes profound basketball courage to step into his way, and James kept going now, kept that dribble drive alive and a thought flashed to his mind in the moment with Tim Duncan and Dirk Nowitzki on the move.

"When I (saw) those bigs coming, I didn't want to lay the ball up," James said.

So, he dribbled hard and gathered himself and it was clear that no one had the stomach to stop James when he wanted to make the East's 134-128 victory his own. -Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports

Houston Rockets Dampen LeBron James' Celebration

Houston Rockets 93
Cleveland Cavaliers 85

Tuesday night the Houston Rockets tied a team record with its ninth straight road win, 93-85 over the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Rockets are now 13-12

"Well, we hoped he (meaning LeBron James) had a good time in New Orleans," said a confident Shane Battier of the Houston Rockets before the game.

And the good time was interrupted that night as the Rockets defensive game plan stopped James right in his tracks. It was a headache James couldn't quite shake off.

James, who won his second All-Star MVP in three years on Sunday in New Orleans, finished the game with 26 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists. It was his fifth triple-double this season and career No. 15 -- the third youngest to reach that mark behind Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson.

The Rockets entered the NBA's unofficial midseason interruption as the Western Conference's hottest team and they didn't cool off, winning their ninth in a row to improve to 18-3 since Jan. 4.
Houston last nine straight victories in a row on the road was in 1993.

Rafer Alston scored 22 points, Yao Ming added 16 points and 14 rebounds, and Luis Scola added 15 points as the Rockets, one of the league's stingiest teams, won for the 12th time in 13 games. The constant during the game was a defensive mind-set which was missing early in the season.

"It just took time for us to figure it out," remarked Battier.

Tiger Woods Wins Two In A Row In Dubai

"To go two-for-two, it's a pretty good start, isn't it?" said Woods after another win in his second tournament this year at the Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday.

Tiger Woods started the year off with an eight-shot victory at the Buick Invitational then the next week was his largest comeback in eight years when he rallied from a four-shot deficit with an array of impressive shots that make him look even tougher than ever to beat than he already is.

Woods had trailedErinie Els by four strokes but he birdied his last two holes, and five of his last seven, for a 7-under 65 to start his season with two victories that looked nothing alike.

"I'm just happy to get a win out of this," said and elated Woods.

This is the third time Woods has started his season 2-0, another sign that he could be headed for a extraordinary year. He has now won his last four consecutive official tournaments, and six of his last seven going back to the Bridgestone Invitational in early August. Woods also won his unofficial Target World Challenge by seven shots in December.

"It's the ideal start, isn't it?" Woods said. "You play to win. So far, I've done that this year."

Woods finished at 14-under 274 for a one-shot victory over Martin Kaymer of Germany. Woods had already posted his score when Kaymer, who won two weeks ago in Abu Dhabi, closed birdie-birdie-eagle for a 66.

He now has won 72 times worldwide in his career, 62 of those on the PGA Tour. A week ago at Torrey Pines, Woods won by at least eight shots for the ninth time in his career. The Dubai Desert Classic was much to close for comfortable, and Woods made no secret about his tight finish.

"I like (winning) by seven or eight a lot," he said. "It's a lot less stressful."

Inability To Protect Brady Lost The Patriots The Super Bowl

The big, bad, almighty New England Patriots little song and dance in Super Bowl XLII was just plain bad. Their lack lustre uneventful performance was due to the life, one ounce at a time, being squeezed out of them as the New York Giants defensive team went to work on them. Here is why the Giants rocked the Patriots.

Disaster struck the Patriots in the form of an all-out, pressure-packed swarming defensive attack by the Giants and in the worst possible setting. It was the first time Brady had been sacked as many as five times since the New York Jets did it on Sept. 21, 2003.

They sure did, and left Brady wondering what hit him. Brady simply had no time to find Randy Moss and his other targets on a regular basis against the Giants. He should have known he was in for a long day when he was sacked by Kawika Mitchell and Justin Tuck on consecutive plays midway through the second quarter.

The AFC champions' heralded offensive line allowed a season-high five sacks to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl on Sunday, failing to give Tom Brady the type of tight protection they had guarded him with all season.

New England had no answer for the Giants' bulldozing defense.

"It's one of those things where they have a great front seven," center Dan Koppen said. "They have tremendous players up there and they just outplayed us."

Their inability to protect Brady was a major reason the Patriots' quest for perfection ended with a disappointing, history-making 17-14 loss.

Super Bowl XLII: David Beat Goliath

In a turn of the table fashion David (New York Giants) beat Goliath (New England Patriots) as the New York Giants come off with a major upset beating the New England Patriots 17-14. This ended the Patriots perfect run to the Super Bowl as the Giants defensive team was much more than the Patriots could handle.

Eli Manning really did his job to earn his first Super Bowl and MVP of the game. This makes it the second consecutive winning Manning Super Bowl. Peyton Manning cheered Eli on with great pride. And the Manning football legacy continues.

Certainly a sweet dream come.

Here's what AP Football Writer, BARRY WILNER, had to say:

The Giants had the perfect answer for the suddenly imperfect Patriots: a big, bad defense and an improbable comeback led by their own Mr. Cool quarterback, Eli Manning.

In one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history, New York shattered New England's unbeaten season 17-14 Sunday night as Manning hit Plaxico Burress on a 13-yard fade with 35 seconds left. It was the Giants' 11th straight victory on the road and the first time the Patriots tasted defeat in more than a year.

It was the most bitter of losses, too, because New England (18-1) was one play from winning and getting the ultimate revenge for being penalized for illegally taping opponents' defensive signals in the season-opener against the New York Jets.

But its defense couldn't stop a final, frantic 12-play, 83-yard drive that featured a spectacular leaping catch by David Tyree, who had scored New York's first touchdown on the opening drive of the fourth quarter.

"It's the greatest feeling in professional sports," Burress said before bursting into tears.....

That it was Manning taking that knee was stunning. Peyton's kid brother not only matched his sibling's achievement of last year with the Indianapolis Colts, but he showed the brilliant precision late in the game usually associated with, well, Brady.

Peyton Manning was seen in a luxury box jumping up and pumping both fists when Burress, who didn't practice all week because of injuries, caught the winning score.....

The Giants became the first NFC wild card team to win a Super Bowl; four AFC teams have done it. They also are the second team in three years to play nothing but away games and come away with the big prize; Pittsburgh did after the 2005 season.

GLENDALE, Arizona (Ticker) - Do not try to convince the New York Giants that nothing good comes out of a loss.

A narrow 38-35 defeat to the New England Patriots in the regular-season finale may have been the best thing to happen to the Giants - even if the game was essentially meaningless to them.

Not only did it show New York (13-6) that it could compete with the league's best team, the loss served to spark a slumbering offense that had produced more than 21 points just once in the previous eight games.

Armed with a renewed confidence, the fifth-seeded Giants ripped off three consecutive road victories, including revenge games against the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers, to earn a most improbable berth in Sunday's Super Bowl XLII.

Their opponent, appropriately enough, is the Patriots (18-0), who capped off the first 16-0 regular season by overtaking the Giants, rallying from their largest deficit of the season (28-16) in the second half to do so.

New England held its final practice session Friday. Coach Bill Belichick elected to have the Patriots forego the normal walkthrough at University of Phoenix Stadium on Saturday.

"We're ready to roll," Belichick said. "We're ready as we're going to be."

Giants coach Tom Coughlin put his team through an 80-minute workout Friday and concluded preparations with a walkthrough Saturday.

"It was a good solid work week," Coughlin said. "We talked about coming over here and having a good six hours (of practice) together. We had that each day we worked."

Now the task for New York is slowing down the Patriots' bid for history - something its players know is possible from the first matchup.

Quarterback Eli Manning, however, was quick to caution that as well as the Giants played in the regular-season finale, the final outcome still resulted in a loss.

New England Patriots Got Land In Sight

Under the careful guidance of the Master coach Belichick, the New England Patriots have been
to three Super Bowls in four years, and finished the 2007 regular season with a perfect 16-0 record. They are the fourth team in NFL history to go undefeated in the regular season, and the only team since the regular season schedule was expanded to 16 games.

In the AFC Championship game on January 20, 2008 the Patriots defeated the San Diego Chargers, 21-12, to advance to their fourth Super Bowl in 7 years. They have become the first team in NFL history to go 18 wins and 0 losses. They hope to make it 19-0 at Super Bowl XLII at the U. of Phoenix stadium in Arizona February 3, 2008 where to meet the New York Giants.

Tiki Barber: Highlights and Awards

Tiki Barber has been with New York Giants from 1997-2006.

Given the edge by Barber's running and receiving, the Giants represented the NFC in the Super Bowl but lost the game to the Baltimore Ravens in 2000. This established Barber as a starter and play maker, and he was rewarded for his achievements with a six-year contract from the Giants following the 2000 season. After the signing, Tiki referred to himself as "the happiest man in New York right now."

But with all of Barber's accomplishments he did not reach the pinnacle of football of being part of a Super Bowl winning team.

  • 3x All-Pro selection (2002, 2004, 2005)
